Dorset, England
Dorset doesn’t get as much attention as Cornwall, but it packs a lot of England’s beautiful southwestern coastline in a relatively small package with a fraction of the crowds. We spent a brief weekend in Dorset from our home in London.
Itinerary
1 night in Weymouth at an Airbnb.
Day 1: August 17, 2019
Visited Shaftesbury to break up our drive. Walked around the town center. Visited Gold Hill, a picturesque cobblestone street. Shopped at the Botanical Candle Co.
Walked through Win Green.
Lunch at Bankes Arms Inn in Studland.
Walked from there to Old Harry Rocks.
Parked at Durlston Country Park Car Park and walked past the Great Globe southwest on the SW Coast Path toward Anvil Point Lighthouse.
Checked into our Airbnb and settled into Weymouth.
Dinner at the Dorset Burger Company in Weymouth. We wouldn’t recommend it.
Day 2: August 18, 2019
Parked at Lulworth Cove and hiked west along the SW Coast Path to Man O'War Beach and Durdle Door.
Hiked back to Lulworth and then around Lulworth Cove
Lunch at Finley’s Cafe in Lulworth.
Parked at 50.617002, -2.183648 and followed the SW Coast Path northwest to Worbarrow Beach.
Visited Corfe Castle. Walked around the town. Consulted the train schedule so that we could time a photo at the train station with the picturesque vintage train.
Drove back to London.
If We Ever Went Back
We were very happy to have had a couple of days in Dorset, but ideally, we would have set aside an extra day or two to take in everything the Jurassic Coast has to offer.
