Camden, Maine, USA
Midcoast Maine holds some very special memories for us, including our wedding in Wiscasset. We decided to spend a long Memorial Day weekend in Camden, one of the midcoast’s other gems, to usher in the summer of 2021. We visited Camden from our home in Portland.
Itinerary
2 nights in Camden at the Windward House.
Day 1: May 29, 2021
Visited Owls Head Lighthouse. Took the wooded path northwest to the beach as well.
Stopped in Rockland. Grabbed lunch at Cafe Miranda. Walked around town, popping in and out of shops (we especially enjoyed Curator Consignment and Daughters). Visited the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (we really enjoyed David Row’s “Shape of Things” and S.B. Walker’s “Nor’east”.
Checked into our hotel and settled into Camden.
Hiked the Maiden Cliff Trail. Amazing views of Megunticook Lake and beyond.
Walked around Camden.
Takeout dinner from Long Grain.
Day 2: May 30, 2021
Breakfast at the Windward House.
Hiked Mt. Battie & Mt. Megunticook. Started at our hotel and walked up Megunticook Street to the trailhead. The summit of Mt. Battie was busy with crowds of people that drove up, but the crowds thinned immediately as we continued on up toward the summit of Mt. Megunticook, the tallest peak in Camden Hills State Park. The views from Ocean Lookout are spectacular.
Lunch from the Smoothie Shack.
Visited Rockport. Walked around Marine Park. Drove around Beauchamp Point Road.
Dinner at Flatbread in Rockport.
Day 3: May 31, 2021
Breakfast at the Windward House.
We had hoped to spend more time in Camden on this last day, but the weather was terrible and was not forecast to change, so we drove back to Portland right after breakfast.
